Presentación
La cultura y la educación son el punto de partida de este encuentro científico que tiene como objetivo analizar las riquísimas relaciones entre estas y las bandas de música en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad. El título “Del cuartel al escenario” incluye los espacios de actuación de la banda de música, desde su origen y función militar hasta su participación en múltiples escenarios de la sociedad civil. Esta idea principal establece un marco idóneo para reflexionar sobre las interconexiones entre la cultura, la educación y las bandas de música, así como sobre otras propuestas no vinculadas directamente con las líneas temáticas principales, pero sí relevantes para el estudio científico.
El estudio de las bandas de música y sus interacciones con los contextos sociales en los que se encuentran inmersas se halla dentro de la tendencia internacional que pretende revalorizar la importancia de estas agrupaciones en la historia de la música, tanto a nivel musical como cultural, social y educativo, sin olvidar sus oríge‐ nes e influencias militares. Las temáticas sugeridas en este evento abundan en esa línea, en tanto que proponen el estudio de la banda de música como instrumento al servicio de las instituciones y del pueblo, además de resaltar su papel como escuela de música e institución difusora de una amplia gama de repertorios.
Por otra parte, la singularidad de Cartagena como puerto marítimo y sede del Tercio de Levante de Infantería de Marina la convierte en una ubicación perfecta para profundizar en las relaciones entre las bandas de música y la cultura militar, un incipiente y pionero campo de investigación que nos permitirá analizar en este IV Congreso Internacional de la Comisión de Bandas de Música de la SEdeM la larga tradición de las bandas de música militares en España y fuera de ella, el perfil de los músicos militares, la organización de estas formaciones y su relación con las instituciones culturales y sociales, así como su papel en la configuración de mensajes y en la construcción de identidades.

Introduction
Culture and education are the starting point of this scientific meeting that aims at analyzing the rich relationships between them and music bands in all areas of society. The title “From barracks to the stage” includes the performance spaces of music bands, from their origin and military function to their participation in multiple scenarios of civil society. This premise provides an ideal framework for analyzing and reflecting on the interconnections between culture, education and music bands, as well as with other proposals that are not directly linked to the main thematic lines, but which are relevant to scientific study.
The study of music bands and their interactions with the social contexts whe‐ re they are immersed is part of the international trend that aims at revaluing the importance of these groups in the history of music, both musically and culturally, socially and educationally, without forgetting their origins and military influences. The topics proposed for this event explore those lines, putting forward the study of the music band as an instrument per se at the service of institutions and people, but also as a music school and disseminator of a wide variety of repertoires.
Likewise, the uniqueness of Cartagena as a seaport and headquarters to the so‐ called Tercio de Levante of the Infantry Marines makes it a perfect location to delve into the relations between music bands and military culture, an incipient and pionee‐ ring field of research that will allow us to analyse, on this occasion, the long tradition of military music bands in Spain, the profile of military musicians, the organization of these formations and their relationship with cultural and social institutions, as well as their role in the configuration of messages and in the construction of identities.
